Lesbian Book Club, yae or nae?

20 06 2008

Would anyone be interested in joining an online lesbian book club?  There would be a book every, let’s say, two months, and then we could talk about it either using a listserv or chat room (or both).  I’d try to pick titles that are likely to be easy to find, so you might be able to participate for free by checking the books out from the library.  If you think you’d be interested, comment to this post.  Also, let me know if you like doing just lesbian-themed books, or if you’d be more interested in a more general women’s/feminist/lesbian theme.  I’ll be asking around on my favourite lesbian and feminist blogs and linking back to this post as well.

Sure. I’m amenable to any and all titles.

Hmm. I could probably do this. I’ve just got so much on my “to-read” list, and I fail at reading anything in a timely manner.
Put me down as a “maybe” I guess.

Hi… I haven’t commented before but have enjoyed your blog (I tend to be very shy to comment). I couldn’t help but respond to this post however! If this comes to be, I would be very interested. Thanks for suggesting it!

I’m interested. As long as I can find most of the books at the library, I don’t care if they’re lesbian-themed or not.

Awesome! New post up with details on the first book, everyone.

Leigh – I’m glad you enjoy reading! I’m horrible at commenting myself, but it’s always good to know that someone else is reading 🙂

Jenny – I tried to pick a relatively easy to find book for the first one, but if you e-mail me and let me know what area’s library system you’re in (I’ll mention this generally as an option to people as well) then I’ll try to pick books that are definitely available for those participating (within reason, obviously if your library only has two gay books total that would be more difficult!)

I’m for it. I’d like to do lesbian-themed or -written…but there’s an awful lot of dyke dreck out there.

U – Well we won’t be reading two dollar paperback romances, if that’s what you mean! We have a board here:

http://lesbianbookclub.proboards105.com/

If you sign up, you can see all the topics and there is a book suggestion topic as well. The first book is Stir-Fry, by Emma Donoghue, and we’ll be discussing that one in late August.

Hi…just discovered this message, and wanting to know if you are still considering the lesbian book club. I am in Australia, but that is no problem, I would love to be part of it…lesbian or non lesbian theme. I find some lesbian themed books in my 2 local libraries, not sure if they buy them by “accident” or not. Being an ex librarian, I tend to think, unless there is a lesbian working there, that they often buy them accidently (fiction at least!). Cheers

Heck yeah that would be amazing…..

I read anything with words in it basically. The good, the bad, and the ugly. It’s an addiction.

Lesbian themes are my current favorite, I love coming out stories.

Are there any books you’d recommend? I owned Night Watch by Sarah Waters but have yet to read it :/
